I have been a huge fan of the housewives franchise since the beginning. The Original Housewives of Orange County were fascinating and caught the attention of many! It also launched a Bravo reality TV empire with housewives franchises popping up in many cities across the US. We even get to enjoy spinoffs with some of the more "standout" stars from their particular city.
Like I said I'm a huge fan and watch all of the different cities. However, I'm not really sure how this can be termed "Reality" TV. Not one city has featured anyone that is relatable in the real world!
Every city has their drama. Anytime you get that many women in one place the caddy takes over. These woman gossip, back stab, and basically rip each other apart for a nation wide audience each week. Sure in the end they get book deals and a fifteen minute ride of fame but at what expense?
As in life there is always good and evil and that is definitely present in each Housewives franchise. Perhaps the most evil of all the cities comes in the form of a Husband! Joe Giudice, husband to Teresa of The Real Housewives of New Jersey!
Honestly my heart breaks for Teresa and her daughters (she has 4). I realize that not all reality TV is real but the slime oozing out of this guy is 100% real! I feel almost like we are all watching this poor woman get abused each week! Her slime bag husband fills her head with ridiculous crap and she smiles and tries to make everyone (including the viewers) think he is so great!
We have all watched while he got them tangled in a legal mess where they had to declare bankruptcy! He followed that by talking on the phone (on camera) to another woman having a conversation calling his wife, mother of his children, the mother if all filthy names! Now this season we watch as he drives a wedge between Teresa and her brother. Sprinkled in there he has been charged with DUI and and after his license got suspended he attempts to defraud the state by trying to get a license in his brothers name!
I realize we are only see a snip-it of these people's lives... But in this case that's all we need. How does Teresa watch this each week and not cringe at how stupid she looks for staying with him! I hope for her and her daughters sake she smartens up soon and leaves him.
The good from The New Jersey franchise definitely comes from Chris & Jacqueline Laurita. It was revealed that their young son was diagnosed with autism at 1 years old. The Laurita's decided to use their celebrity to bring awareness to the cause. Each week we watch as they give us a peek inside the struggle of raising a child with special needs. I have to commend them for showing us how when life hands you a problem all you can do is fight. They share with us their journey as they try different treatments to help their son. They should be commended for showing us celebrity can an should be used for good.
